Pastor Malcolm Jeffries

Malcolm felt called to his faith at a young age. He met his wife Jenny at Grace Community Church and has led that congregation for years. Since Jenny's sudden passing, Malcolm has felt unmoored - as a grieving husband, as a doting father and as a pastor. Lori, his wife's best friend, has been his rock through it all. But is Malcolm catching romantic feelings for her? It's not like that. Or is it?

Erinn Hayes

Lori Soto

Lori is a loving mother of two and a PR executive who is fresh on the heels of divorce. She pours her energy into her children and her work to avoid thinking too much about her new single life or the loss of her best friend, Jenny. Over her own summer of change, Lori has grown close to Malcolm, as they have leaned on each other to create a sense of normalcy for themselves and their children.

J.R. Ramirez

David Soto

David is Lori's accomplished, ambitious and emotionally insecure ex-husband. Self-described as a "grass is always greener kind of guy," David worries that his long-brewing decision to leave his wife and kids might have been impulsive, especially since he pulled the trigger shortly after Jenny passed away. A devoted father with a good heart, David's trying to figure out what he really wants for himself.

Flora Jeffries

Flora is Malcolm's oldest child (15). A sensitive soul, Flora has become withdrawn, questioning her own faith since her mother passed away. Over the season she turns to journaling and music to channel her grief. Along the way she finds solace, companionship and possibly something more with Lori's son, Merritt.

Cassidy Paul

Penelope Jeffries

Penelope is Malcolm's middle child (13). She is a "girly girl" who's reveling in her new position in the popular clique, a shift at school that is a direct result of the grief she is and isn't processing. She no longer feels close to Casey, her childhood best friend, whom she started to pull away from after the death of her mother.

Cary Christopher

Justin Jeffries

Justin is Malcolm's youngest child (9). Dubbed "dad's good little boy" by his sisters, Justin is the peacekeeping, good-hearted center of the family, and the most devout of the Jeffries children. At school he has become the target of a bully. At home he finds solace in cooking which is also how he stays connected to his late mother.

Caleb Baumann

Merritt Soto

Merrit is Lori and David's oldest child (16). Athletic and intense, he is a high school wrestler who is struggling deeply with his parents' recent divorce. On the outside he remains stoic, in part to protect his younger sister, but on the inside, he longs for someone to understand just how much he's hurting.

Liv Lindell

Casey Soto

Casey is Lori and David's daughter (13). A bright and funny young woman, Casey is also a bit of a tomboy who, despite social pressure, is determined to stay true to herself. She is weathering her parent's divorce a little better than her brother, but she struggles with the fact that Penelope ghosted her over the summer.
